A leading light of the Madras Art Movement, acclaimed sculptor S.Nandagopal, is the son of the legendary painter K.C.S Paniker. Nandagopal proudly carried forward the legacy of a life dedicated to art and the artists’ community. His pioneering works as a sculptor brought him national and international acclaim and admiration amongst art enthusiasts. He is best known for his ‘frontal narrative sculptures’ that integrate ancient sculptural practices of India’s past with the formal discoveries of modern art.
The Progressive Painters' Association ( P.P.A ) is one of the oldest art organizations in India started by the late Shri K. C. S Paniker in 1944. Members of the P.P.A. include many eminent artists as well as some promising new talent most of whom reside in Cholamandal Artists’ Village.
Progressive Painters Association conducted India’s first Miniature Format Show in Pune in 1971, followed by similar shows in Chennai and Mumbai in 1972.
