Drawing on Memories
It was in 2020-21, during the lockdowns, restrictions and relative isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that I began doing some new drawings. While working one day, I came across an attractive wedding invitation card with gold and silver designs. I pasted portions of the card onto my drawings and found the result interesting. This led me to move in that direction, combining drawing with collage. At a later point in time, I felt it may be interesting to use images from my own artwork done over the years. I began using prints of my paintings and other works – from old catalogues and the book on my art and times, Vriksha. This helped me to create collages telling new stories that were very different from the stories in the original paintings, copper reliefs, and so on.
