Fabric has a fluid quality to it and yet it is an intricately constructed element. Much like a God’s handy work in creating any being or form; a simplicity emerging through complicated combinations and permutations. A weaver much like the same creates his design with extreme concentration and love. Our artist is no less a creator of complex designs that tell tales of dreams woven in gentle conversation with reality.

‘Woven Narratives’ is an online exhibition of art works by artist ‘R.Sundararaju’. He uses his influence from his experience and expertise in ‘Weavers service center’. His works are very design like, timeless yet comprehensive. His use of earthy colours done in a tea-wash technique, with a background that looks like ancient unique script transcribes his figures in a sculpturesque stylized manner.

His works are austere yet resonate an energy that is rooted to culture and convention. Birds, clocks, stylized flowers and structures resembling stone carvings are some of his recurring icons. They are like framed photographs of a memory, or the culmination of a folk story or fable. The protagonist a woman or sometimes two are always in portrait or profile. They seem to be narrators of an enthusiastic tale matching the strength and honesty of the Amazonian characters. Although inspired by the hardworking women of his home town, these women match royal existences from the golden ages gone by.

So in all the viewer is delighted with a display of feminine strength and raw power interwoven in design and legacy. They can either chose to travel into the frame to participate or be a spectator of the solidarity of the feminine spirit encased within the frame.
