SISIR SAHANA (b.1965)
Sisir Sahana is a Professor in Ceramics and Glass, Department of Design in Kala-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, India. He was the former Principal of Kala Bhavana and Head of the Department, Design, Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati. He taught art in the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, Hyderabad from 1989 to 1994.
He studied B.Fine Arts (Painting) in 1982 to 1987, M.Fine Arts in 1987 to 1989 from Kala-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, and Advanced Diploma in Stained Glass from the Central St.Martin’s College of Art & Design, London in 1993-94.
Scholarship:
He has received Commonwealth Scholarship, nominated by The MHRD, Department of Education, Government of India, sponsored by the Commonwealth Universities Commission, United Kingdom in 1993-1994.
Fellowships:
He has received Junior Research Fellowship in the field of Glass Painting for 1992 and 1993 and Senior Research Fellowship for 2008 and 2009 from MHRD, Department of Culture, Government of India. He was invited on a Fellowship/Residency program by Creative Glass Center of America, USA to participate as a fellow artist from January to April in 2000 and 2004. He has participated in a Residency Programme offered by Pittsburgh Glass Center, Pittsburg, USA, 2019.
Exhibitions:
He has held 35 solo exhibitions in India and participated in many group exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops and seminars in India, USA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Bangladesh and Egypt.
Film making:
He has directed two feature films and four documentary films.
