Shalini Biswajit (b.1965)

"I often engage with the feminine as a self portrait; a grapheme that is self-reflective and journalistic where nature, figuration, colour and space assume the mantle of protagonist. In the WomanEyes series, I am a Woman who exists in my own terms unfathomed by my surroundings. I hope to  provoke a sensory appeal that poses a challenge about possibilities and the aesthetics of spatial relationships. Alluding to the scent of a lotus that grows in slush and yet remains detached and unaffected by the mundaneness of its surroundings, it rises above the odds to bloom …. to aspire. I  visually and emotionally invoke a heightened awareness of the self, a thought provoking moment – one that lingers on …."
